Blurb-
Aydah Bell was happy in her normalcy; she was never the class clown or the sports hero, never the beauty queen or little Ms. Honor Student. One day, after a pointless family mini-vacation, Aydah returns to school and finds that her sheltered little world has turned upside-down. Besides the fact that she is beginning to crave raw meat, people are also disappearing.

Suddenly, an alarming disappearance in the quiet and serene city she calls home puts the whole town into high-alert. One of Aydah’s schoolmates vanishes during the weekend and is conveniently replaced by a newcomer. To Aydah’s surprise, the new boy is the completely beautiful and oh-so mysterious Liam Bailey.
Aydah finds herself drawn to Liam. He consumes her thoughts and she aches to be with him. In the mix of passion, jealousy, and hatred that follows, Aydah is too distracted to see the horrible fate headed straight for her.

Excerpts-
There was so much pain. My skin was on fire and sweat dripped from every pore of my body. There was nothing I could do to make it go away, nothing in the world that could stop it. My flesh was being ripped from my bones, and my insides were being torn out. I was dying … what else could it be? Nothing besides death would feel so terrible. My head pounded and my brain ached. Hot pokers seared into my eyes, and my ears throbbed with sharp, shooting pains.

***

For just a moment more, his fingers continued to touch my forehead. He was perfectly still. His eyes were riveted to my face, like he was memorizing every line, every curve, with his fingertips and copying the image of my features into the palm of his hand. When he lowered his hand slowly, the tips of his fingers traced the bridge of my nose and followed down my jaw line. Frozen feathers, velvety and invigorating, awakening my body with their soft tickling chill. He cupped my chin in his hand and I could feel how powerful he was. He could bring down a mountain, reducing it to dust, but he was also gentle. There was safety in his stone caress and tenderness. The tips of his fingers rested beneath my chin and lifted my head slightly. As he brought his face to mine, my heart caught in my chest and my breath stopped completely. My head was a tornado of want and need. The temperature of my skin began to boil, but Liam’s skin sent a shiver down my spine. I was burning with fever, but shivering against the cold.

About the Author –
Emily Fogle was born and raised in Southern California. Her dream and ultimate goal was to get her Master’s degree in English and become a teacher with enough time to write, as well. However, she soon found out that the best dreams often come true when they aren’t planned. Instead of fulfilling her teaching goal, real life took over and she married the man of her dreams. She now has an amazing 7 year old son and another beautiful baby boy on the way.
She dedicates the majority of her time taking care of her family, volunteering at her son’s school, and being a Cub Scout Den leader. And though she loves every minute of it, the thought of being a writer still tugs at her heart. So, after the busy days are done and everyone is finally sleeping quietly, she squeezes in time for all the other loves in her life: the characters running wild inside her head.
Now, incredibly, her writing dream is also coming true. Her first novel, Dragon Wars, is being published by Anchor Group. Emily feels sincerely blessed to have been given so much in life and can’t wait to start the next chapter.

Tommy Goes Trick or Treating by Emlyn Chand

With Halloween near, I thought it was only fitting to share Tommy Goes Trick or Treating today by Emlyn Chand. Again, this another book that we've reviewed previously on our other blog, Marietta Homeschooling Zoo.

BLURB:

Tommy is a mischievous little woodpecker who loves to fly to the edge of the forest and watch the people in the nearby suburb. One evening, something strange and exciting happens—people emerge from their houses wearing costumes and carrying colorful buckets with smiling faces on them. What’s even crazier is that they shout a special codeword while standing outside of each house, and are given delicious-looking candy.

Tommy simply must join in the fun. He and his friend, Michael the raccoon, fashion their own costumes and head off to join in the festivities. Thanks to Tommy's knock-knocking beak and Michael’s quick paws, the duo is able to heist many a candy bar from the unsuspecting homeowners and children.

But are they missing out on the true spirit of Halloween?

    My Review - 5 stars

Here we are with another great book from Emlyn Chand's Bird Brain series. As with all of Emyln's books there is a lesson to be learned, and unfortunately for Tommy, he had to learn the hard way - with a MAJOR stomach ache!!

I realize we are in the dead of winter, and still have SEVERAL months before Halloween but it is one of Yang's favorite holidays. She loves to dress up and go house to house. In our community, Halloween is never on Halloween night and there is a window of an hour and a half - two hours. We live in a Tri-State and if we wanted we could end up going out 2-3 different times, if not more. I know several people that do this! Most flock to the "big" neighborhoods that are known for giving out LOTS of candy. We avoid those areas at all cost. We stick to smaller neighborhoods and only go out for about an hour. For one, Yang can't handle all of the commotion much less the houses that are going for gore and scaring the kids. We will walk right past those. Another reason is Yang does not need a ton of sugar. Not only the obvious that is it bad for you, but it makes her act CRAZY!! We have a 3 piece rule, twice a day - after lunch and dinner. This not only cuts down of the chances of her acting crazy, but it also prevents her from gorging herself. Too bad Michael & Tommy's Moms had not taught them to pace themselves!

Tommy is visiting the neighborhood when he sees the humans dressing funny. He is curious as to what they are up to when he runs into his friend Michael, the raccoon. Michael & Tommy decide they want to dress up like the human so they can get candy as well. Michael is a robber with his black circles around his eyes and he does just that! Tommy knocks on the door and when the humans open, Michael jumps grabbing the bowl of candy before running off. Once they've stolen candy from every house on the block, greed has taken a hold of them and they scare the humans and grab their candy. Tommy & Micheal head back to their stash of candy & begin gorging themselves. It's not long before they are awful sick. Will Tommy & Michael be able to change things before Halloween in completely ruined? Most importantly, have they learned their lesson?

Honey the Hero by Emlyn Chand

Here is another review that was originally posted on our other blog, Marietta Homeschooling Zoo, back in December 2012. I just love Honey and her willingness to help.

Welcome to my stop on the Honey the Hero! blog tour powered by Innovative Online Book Tours. Below you will find a synopsis, bio author of Emlyn Chand, useful links, my review and Rafflecopter giveaway.
Honey, an inquisitive young parakeet living in the Australian Outback, decides to become a superhero after she spies a human family watching Superman. Since she already has the power of flight, all she needs to do is create a costume to conceal her true identity and then fly off in search of animals that need rescuing.

Unfortunately, every time she tries to help, Honey only ends up making matters worse. She spoils Kangaroo’s game of hide-and-go-seek by revealing his hiding place to Wallaby; Mr. Anteater must go hungry when she alerts the ants to his presence, and Mrs. Koala is made a laughingstock among bears when Honey pretends to be her Joey. Finally realizing that she’s not as heroic as she’d like, Honey gives up her day-saving efforts.

But what happens when someone actually needs Honey’s help? Will she rise to the challenge?

My Review:
4 Stars

This is actually my second review of a book written by Emlyn Chand, and another book in her Bird Brain Series.

Yang and I read Honey the Hero! together and she loved it. She has actually asked me to read it to her each night!!

Honey reminds me of toddler, always wanting to help but sometimes being to much help. Sometimes we don't realize it but our "help" is actually the opposite. It doesn't mean that our intentions are not from the heart, or that there isn't a "job" out there for us. We just have to find the right one, at the right time.

As Honey flies over the Outback looking for trouble she comes across a kangaroo that appears to be stuck in the mud. Only the kangaroo was playing hide-n-go seek and Honey just gave his hiding place away. It doesn't end there. Honey continues to travel across the Outback looking out for danger below, and only causing more headache. Upon arriving home Honey cries she is too small. Mama Bird gives Honey a big hug, explains that she is not to small to offer help and sends her out to play. It's not long before Honey stumbles across a baby dingo, lost in the woods without her family. Will Honey finally feel useful and help the baby find his family? Or has Honey just created a bigger problem?

I love the way that Emlyn brings real life situations and incorporates them into her Bird Brain series. She does an excellent job portraying life lessons in a way that appeal and make sense to young children.

WELCOME

WELCOME!

Many of you may already know us from our other blog, Marietta Homeschooling Zoo. I feel like the time has come that I need to separate my homeschooling blogging from book reviews. I've always been an avid reader and have had to turn away my request for reviews because they would not fit our homeschooling blog, so here we are!

If you are an author and would like to schedule a review, have a blog tour or book blast coming up please email me. I have 3 daughters - 8 years old, 13 years old & 15 years old and I read about anything.

Be sure to follow our facebook page and check back soon as we have many things to come in the near future you won't want to miss!
